A Day in Haiphong: Food Tour and Iconic Check-in Spots

Born and raised in Haiphong, I’m thrilled to see that the food tours in my city have gained popularity recently, attracting visitors from various regions who come to taste the delights we offer. The Haiphong Department of Tourism has created a food tour map with numerous great dining spots for your reference. In this article, I’d like to suggest a one-day itinerary in Haiphong featuring my favorite eateries and some famous check-in locations in the city!

1. Getting Around

If you’re coming from nearby provinces, you can reach Haiphong by car, train, motorbike, or if coming from further away, a flight to Cat Bi Airport.
Once in the city, you can easily rent a motorbike, take a taxi, or hop on a cyclo to move between places. In this guide, I’ll share my experience traveling from Hanoi by train.

2. One-Day Food Tour and Check-in Itinerary in Haiphong

This itinerary is based on my personal experiences, and you can either follow it or explore additional places on the food tour map!

Morning

  • 6:00 AM: Depart from Hanoi Station and arrive at Haiphong Station at 8:25 AM. Don’t forget to check-in at Haiphong Station!
  • 8:30 AM: Indulge in spicy fish noodles at 66 Le Loi, 227 Van Cao, or enjoy crab cake vermicelli at 195 Cau Dat.
  • 9:00 AM: Visit the Statue of Female General Le Chan, the City Theatre, and the Flower Café for some great photos.
  • 10:00 AM: Treat yourself to coconut coffee at 124A Lam Son or 102 Lam Son (148 Luong Khanh Thien) or chrysanthemum tea at 17 (33) Phan Boi Chau.
  • 11:00 AM: Grab some nem (spring rolls) at 92 Tran Nhat Duat or enjoy bun cha and crab spring rolls at Phuong Mai, 87 Cat Cut.
  • 12:00 PM: Chill out with coffee or smoothies at No.1986 (33-35 Dinh Tien Hoang) and take a breather.

Afternoon

  • 2:00 PM: Feast on spicy bread and Thai-style dessert at 37 Dinh Tien Hoang, or rice flour cakes at 41 (43) Le Dai Hanh.
  • 3:00 PM: Check in at the Haiphong Museum, the City Post Office, Hoang Van Thuy Bridge, and Haiphong Port.
  • 4:00 PM: Sample snails at 96 Thuy Linh (96 208 An Dong) or Hương Ốc (274 Hang Kenh), Lan Oc (74 Ding Dong), Thuy Duong (30/263 Lach Tray).
  • 6:00 PM: Enjoy spicy porridge at 17 Tran Binh Trong.
  • 6:40 PM: Board the train from Haiphong Station back to Hanoi by 9:15 PM.

Additionally, you can spend an afternoon visiting Cô Dao Market, Tam Bac Market (also known as Chợ Đổ), or Cat Bi Market, where numerous delicious snacks await your choices.

3. What to Buy as Souvenirs?

  • Spicy bread
  • Coconut cream
  • Pâté
  • Rice dumplings
  • Dried fish and squid
  • Red rice vermicelli

Besides these items, do not miss out on other renowned dishes in Haiphong such as mì chờ (waiting noodles), bánh đúc tàu (steamed rice cake), chicken stew, nem chua (fermented pork), bánh cuốn (rice rolls), tàu hũ (tofu with syrup), chè vừng (sesame dessert), sủi dìn (Vietnamese dumplings), seafood Thai noodles, mixed vermicelli, and many more.

As soon as you disembark from the train, remember to check in at Haiphong Station.
