BTS, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion Take Home 3 Awards Each (Complete Winners List)

Worldwide popularity BTS took home the top honors for artist of the year at the American Music Awards, along with awards for favorite pop duo or group and favorite pop song for hit single “Butter,” while Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion also scored three wins.

Taylor Swift has broken her own record for most AMA wins in history, taking the award for favorite female pop artist.

The show, hosted by Cardi B at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, opened with Silk Sonic duo Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, coming off their recent collaborative album An evening with Silk Sonic.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m nervous, I’m shaking,” Cardi B said of her host debut. She informed the audience that the theme of the evening would be celebrating the people of her hometown, as she thanked her – the Bronx in New York City. In the pit around the stage, attendees were covered with face coverings, while VIPs remained maskless in their social distancing seating.

Cardi B then addressed Jojo Siwa in front of the audience, begging the social media star to surprise her daughter – whom the rapper shared with Migos’ Offset – as a Christmas present. Despite her best efforts, Cardi still claims that Siwa is fully booked for the holidays.

“Lemme tells you something, all rappers will have nothing on Jojo Siwa,” Cardi said.

In response, Siwa took the stage and presented the award for Favorite Pop Duo or Group. “I’ll see what I can do. I will try to make Christmas happen, I promise,” Siwa said. The host also urged the audience to vote for her on Dancing with the stars That week, Siwa made it to the final.

As they presented their favorite rock artist, Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort shared an exclusive look at their upcoming musical film. West storyDirected by Steven Spielberg.

First time nominee Olivia Rodrigo performs “traitor” on her hit album SOURaccompanied by her acoustic guitar. Rodrigo also took home the new artist of the year award. “Writing songs is my favorite thing all over the world, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has embraced my music,” the 18-year-old said in her acceptance speech.

Other performers include BTS and Coldplay, Chlöe, Måneskin, Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean, Tyler, the Creator, Walker Hayes, Bad Bunny with Tainy and Julieta Venegas, Kane Brown and Walker Hayes. Diplo served as the show’s first music curator, in which record producer DJ hosted the event all night.

Jennifer Lopez also performed “On My Way”, a song from her upcoming movie Marry me, a romantic musical starring Lopez and Owen Wilson. Snippets of the film hit the stage alongside the pop star, who won the AMA three times.

In their “Battle of Boston” collaboration, New Kids on the Block and New Edition joined forces for a compilation performance of their biggest hits, respectively. Massachusetts-based boy bands kept the audience on their feet and dancing throughout the performance.

Although it was previously confirmed to perform, AMA candidate and winner Megan Thee Stallion did not attend.

In her second win of the night, Swift took the award for best pop album for her quarantine release. alwayssister album to Swift’s folklore. Even though she didn’t attend, Swift gave her acceptance speech, thanking fans for their support not only alwaysbut also her recent re-release of Red (Taylor’s version). “I am so lucky to be in your life and to have you in me,” said the singer-songwriter. Swift has broken her record for the most AMAs an artist has won again, now boasting 34 awards throughout her career.

After their successful night, BTS closed the show with a performance of “Butter.”
