Disney Responds to Snow White Criticism – The Hollywood Reporter

Disney on Tuesday responded to Peter Dinklage’s recent scathing criticism of the upcoming live-action version of Disney. Snow White.

Emmy Award Winner Game of the Thrones the star was a guest on the Monday episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, where he launched the published film based on the 1937 animated classic.

After noting the casting West Edge Story Breaking Rachel Zegler, Dinklage told Maron: “Literally no offense to anyone, but I’m a bit surprised they were so proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White – but you’re still telling the story about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look back at what you were doing there. It makes no sense to me. Are you making progress in a way, but are you still making up the old-fashioned story of seven dwarves living in a cave together? What the hell are you doing? What did I do to verify the cause of my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.” Dinklage is not involved in the Disney project.

Disney tried to set the record right after the comments.

“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original cartoon, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have consulted with members of the dwarven community. We look forward to sharing more as the film enters production after a long period of development,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement. The Hollywood Annunciator.

Still years from release, Snow White there will be cultural consultants, like other live-action films, such as Aladdin and Magnolia Flower. The film was in development for three years; the studio has re-imagined the dwarves characters from the early stages and intended the characters to be CG/animated.
