Regina Hall to Star in Sequel

Regina Hall will star in the sequel to Midnight trip, with original star Robert De Niro producing.

Midnight trip debuted in 1988 and starred De Niro as a bounty hunter tasked with tracking down a former crowd accountant, played by the late Charles Grodin. The best friend comedy sees the cross-country traveling duo trying to evade both the FBI and the mob.

Brooklyn Nine-NineAeysha Carr is writing the script for the film to be edited at Universal. Story details about the sequel are being kept under wraps.

Universal has been trying to create a sequel or remake of the influential comedy since the 1990s. In the early 2010s, Timothy Dowling was writing a script with the idea to have De Niro’s character, Jack Walsh, play the role. paired with a younger comedy.

De Niro and Jane Rosenthal will produce for Tribeca, with executive Berry Welsh producing. Jesse Collins is producing through Jesse Collins Entertainment, with Hall under her RH Negative label. Universal Pictures’ Sara Scott will oversee the studio on behalf of the studio.
