Sharon Stone, Dr. Anthony Fauci to be Honored During Virtual Research in Action Awards

Sharon Stone and her good friend Dr. Anthony Fauci were among the honorees at the Action Therapy Group’s Virtual Action Research Award. Scheduled for Thursday, the event is being held to honor those who have worked to help end infectious diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis and now COVID-19.

Stone, a veteran activist and champion of HIV-related organizations such as amfAR, has been selected to receive a lifetime achievement award for leadership in the AIDS advocacy. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the US National Institutes of Health, will receive a lifetime achievement award for public health leadership. He has been deeply involved in the fight against the novel coronavirus using his expertise gained during 5 decades of working with previous public health crises related to HIV/ AIDS, West Nile virus, SARS, Ebola, Zika and H1N1. Together, their association goes back many years in the fight against HIV.

Just last month, Stone was one of the notable names that honored Fauci when he received the Federal Employee of the Year award at the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal ceremony. With tears in his eyes, Stone praised Fauci’s work, “Thank you for showing us what dignity is. Thank you for speaking the truth with strength. Thank you for being brave. Just, thank you. “

The Action Research Award will also honor National Nurses United, the largest professional association of registered nurses and HIV/human rights activist Steve Wakefield in a program led by journalist and activist Ann Northrop organization.
