Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein Inks Overall Deal With Warner Bros. TV

Brett Goldstein is expanding his relationship with Warner Bros. Television.

Under a competitive bidding process, the Emmy Award-winning star and writer on Ted Lasso signed an exclusive master deal with the studio behind the Apple comedy series. The deal will see Goldstein develop, create and produce new television projects for the studio led by Channing Dungey.

The deal, which includes his writing and production services, sits on top of two previous agreements he signed with the studio for Apple’s Emmy-winning comedy-writing and acting work. Goldstein received a substantial raise in September for his Emmy-winning performance as Roy Kent, which has seen his salary increase from the $50,000-$75,000 he earns per episode for seasons one and two, to $125,000 – $150,000 for the comedy’s upcoming third cycle. Goldstein, who wrote several volumes of the series, also received a raise for his writing services.

“Like the character Joe Gillis in Sunset Blvd, I’ve always dreamed of having my own parking space at Warners, and it’s been incredible to see that dream come true,” Goldstein said in a news release Monday. “However, I hope the comparison ends there and I don’t die in the pool from being shot by a crazy old movie star. As long as that doesn’t happen, I’m excited and incredibly honored to be taking on new and exciting adventures with the brilliant brothers* at Warners. (* Not everyone who works there is involved. Obviously.)

Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis has revealed plans for three seasons for the series. Executives at Apple and Warners have spoken out about keeping the Emmy-winning comedy series alive longer, as well as a desire to make spinoffs if the series actually ends with a third. Goldstein would have been a natural choice to continue as a writer and star, and the Warners deal opens the door to that.

Goldstein started as a writer on Ted Lasso before being exploited to portray the gruff but likable Roy Kent in the series. (Goldstein detailed how he went from writing about the series to playing Roy Kent in a July interview with Top 5 TVs.) He serves as a co-executive producer on Ted Lasso. Also, Goldstein is experimenting again with Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence to write and produce Narrow down, A comedy series for Warners starring Jason Segel has earned straight TV movie orders at Apple. His other credits include creating AMC’s Soulmate and host podcasts The movies are buried together. He is represented by Mosaic, B-Side Management, LARK and Hansen Jacobson.
